Well I say Five, but of course there's me too, although I'm just the observer. It's my privilege to accompany five members of the Newport Branch (Cangen Casnewydd) of the Royal Naval Association to Hermanville-sur-Mer in Normandy, to pay homage to shipmates and comrades lost during the D Day Invasion in June 1944. Veterans, sons, history buffs - all ex-sailors and proud to be taking part in the 69th anniversary commemorations. As am I. I just hope I do their story justice...

D Day prep
It's June 5th and everywhere there are signs of a bit of last minute spit and polish - at the Sailors' memorial in Hermanville (Sword) in readiness for tomorrow, and a floral planting of the Canadian maple leaf in Courseulles-sur-mer (Juno beach).
