Five Pay Homage in Hermanville

Well I say Five, but of course there's me too, although I'm just the observer. It's my privilege to accompany five members of the Newport Branch (Cangen Casnewydd) of the Royal Naval Association to Hermanville-sur-Mer in Normandy, to pay homage to shipmates and comrades lost during the D Day Invasion in June 1944. Veterans, sons, history buffs - all ex-sailors and proud to be taking part in the 69th anniversary commemorations. As am I. I just hope I do their story justice...

Small World

Funny how small the world can be. Specially if you're Welsh perhaps. We met Dennis, member of the Normandy Veterans Association, on board the ferry from Portsmouth, and he joined the boys in the bar for a drink.

And then we met him yesterday, in Colleville-Montgomery, and it turns out he's from North Wales originally, and a Welsh speaker. Listens to Radio Wales and Radio Cymru in Wiltshire. Friendships are made.
