Five Pay Homage in Hermanville

Well I say Five, but of course there's me too, although I'm just the observer. It's my privilege to accompany five members of the Newport Branch (Cangen Casnewydd) of the Royal Naval Association to Hermanville-sur-Mer in Normandy, to pay homage to shipmates and comrades lost during the D Day Invasion in June 1944. Veterans, sons, history buffs - all ex-sailors and proud to be taking part in the 69th anniversary commemorations. As am I. I just hope I do their story justice...

Quiet as a millpond

A glorious sunny June afternoon for our crossing. Peaceful. Very different to 69 years ago.
You can just about see Eddie in the shade. In 1944 he was on board HMS Mourne.
